The timing was too tight, I was already contracted for a different trilogy, and, as was pointed out to me more than once, I wasn’t a historical writer. In the last few pages of A Night Divided, she admits, “There was nothing logical about my decision to write this book. Even while writing for a younger age group, she refrains from being condescending or using what I would call ‘baby talk.’ Nielsen writes because she wants to, and is also humble about her work.
